PAINTINGS

The first series of paintings (below) are based on a my initial exploration of how to express myself with paint.  With the help and encouragement of my friend Wendy, I began to become acquainted with how to use the brushes and the paints.  I then started to ask myself questions about issues of concern in my life.  The paintings 'became' the answer.

Above is one of three pieces that came from a life drawing workshop I attended, run by Meriel Hoare.  Meriel's aim is to allow the individual to find the 'essence' of the body and then translate this through a combination of marks, onto a sheet of paper. The aim is to let the heart rather than the head dictate the mark.

I have more recently been working from a variety of 'still lifes', (right).   My dear friend Felicity  has helped me to understand how colours work, both  together and in opposition to each other.  I am  constantly amazed to experience a real physical sense of excitement when I dare to put marks on   the paper and create something which seems to 'work'.

I have been lucky to have lived all my life surrounded by contemporary art and this no doubt, has influenced me enormously.  For this I am enormously indebted to my mother who continues to enjoy a passion for supporting young artists by buying their work.
